Erupción del Volcán de Fuego

Hola Rainer, wir alle von CAFNIMA sind wohlauf, aber wir alle leiden unter den Ascheausfällen des Vulkans Fuego.
Ich lebe mikt Rosi und Familie nur 50 km von dem Vulkan. Es gab 2 Ausbrüche mit einer Aschewolke, die pyroklastische Flüsse von Lava auslöste, die sehr arme Dörfer unter sich begrub. Die Zahl von 25 Toten ist nur vorläufig, man rechnet mit bedeutend mehr. Der Vulkan ist noch aktiv, was die Rettungsarbeiten bedeutend erschwert. Gestern starb eion Feuerwehrmann bei einem pyroklastischen Ausdbruch. Ca. 3.500 Personen müssen umgesiedelt werden. Zzur Zeit sind sie gut versorgt. Im Moment können wir wohl noch nichts tun- bis zum Moment des Wiederaufbaus der Wohnstätten. Zunächst machen wir eine Situationsanalyse, sobald der Vulkan sich beruhigt hat. Im Moment lässt die Polizei nur Rettungskräfte an die Unfallstätte.
Falls Ihr in dieser Situation an eine Hilfe denkt, würden uns z-.Zt. schon ca. 10.000.- USD. dabei helfen, in den an das Katasrophengebiet angrenzenden Ansiedlungen eine ERrste Hilfeaktion zu starten, wie Instandsetzung des Wassersystems, ersthilfe für Familien usw. Eine genauere Übersicht werden wir in einer oder zwei Wochen haben.
Entschuldige, dass ich in Spanisch schreibe, aber ich bin in Eile, um vor Ort die Lage zu erkunden.

Hola Rainer… Todos los miembros del equipo de CAFNIMA estamos bien. También nuestras áreas de trabajo solo han sido afectadas por ceniza. Vivimos con Rosi en Ciudad Vieja y a tan solo 50 Kms. del Volcán de Fuego. Hubieron dos erupciones que causaron una columna de ceniza que causo flujos piroclásticos y lahares por las barrancas del lado del Pacífico. Lava se mezclo con lodo y arrasó con comunidades muy pobres El conteo de 25 muertos es todavía baja y se piensa que va a aumentar conforme los equipos de rescate pueden llegar a estas aldeas. Hay que decir que el volcán sigue activo, lo que el rescate se hace con gran riesgo… Ayer murio un bombero por un flujo piroclástico.
Va van 3500 personas trasladadas a albergues. Creo que están bien atendidos en las próximas horas. No veo como podemos involucrarnos en este momento, sino hasta el momento de reconstrucción de viviendas… pero podremos hacer un análisis de la situación cuando el volcán se calme… porque ahora la policía solo deja pasar a rescatistas.
Si deseas hacer un llamado a la ayuda para Guatemala, puede hacerlo en un monto de unos 10,000 USD que usaríamos para apoyar en unas comunidades alrededor de la Comunidad El Rodeo en cosas que la solidaridad local típicamente no apoya, como reconstrucción de sistemas de agua, varias necesidades primarias de familias, reconstrucción de casas y otros… sin embargo teneos que ver si las aldeas no van a ser reubicadas. Podremos tener un plan especifico en un o dos semanas.

Thank you very much for your kind support. We will use it with wisely and we will informe you on how we will use it. Rosi is helping a group of psychologist giving support to the rescue teams as the have encountered dead children in the ashes and the need psychological support. We are buying mask so then can continue for their search of victims. recoveries now now that there are more that 82 people dead and more than 200 missing. Also poor people in the area has lost their agricultural production due to the ash affecting corn subsistence crop. We are evaluating to provide shoes and gloves to rescuers in Alotenango, also specialized food for children, but only in the evaluation phase. We will for sure help in the reconstruction of houses for the poor families but in the next months. The volcano still very active and is forbidden to civilians to approach de more affected areas.
We see that the food recollection and distribution is well with the solidarity of many guatemalan. So we are not buying more food.

Guatemala Hilfe für Erdrutsch-Opfer
Dear Friend and colleges of service.
This is a short note to share with you the advances we have had in the relief program that we started with your donation in the slums of Shalom and Los Pines, with 60 and 70 families respectively.
We installed 12 water deposits so the families can have potable water since 3 weeks ago. We are finishing to instal zinc metal sheets for the roof of 27 families that had only a plastic material as roofs. We also covered holes on the walls with thick plastic sheets.
The 27 families are the more needed ones, some of these are single mothers and the poorest among the poor.
We also have included 9 children to our kindergarteen in Casita Amarilla. We also confirmed that other preeschool children were attended in the other kindergarten in the area.
This week we will evaluate and plan how we can evacuate the sand that is the rich owner ot the lot accumulated on the property before was invaded so they we can work on some kind of latrines or drainage.
We send you the pictures of families were the roof was finidhed and some of families installing the roof that you have donated.

Francisco is the oldest son of a mayan family that migrated from Nebaj looking for a better future in Guatemala City. Francisco’s mother and father also work in the dump as reciclers but as they have a formal permition of the municipality to work in the dump, they work in a higher part of the dump.
Francisco was working in the lower part of the dump as he was a minor. On April 28 when at 12.30 pm the floor colapsed by liquification, killing more that 100 people on this lower part of the dump were informal and minor work withour permision of the municipality. But also a garbage truck and a tractor of the municipality fell int he area of the accident killing all it ocupants as the machinery sunk in the liquified garbage.
Francisco was a humble and very well behaved `young pearson. He reperesents the hard working poor of Guatemala that works very hard to survive and have a better future.
You were part of his life, of his hope and of his strugle cut shor by structure of injuctice and margination of the indigenour people of Guatemala.

Hallo Rainer,.
Herzl. Gruß aus Guatemala. Hier schicke ich Dir einen Vorschlag für ein Projekt auf der
Mülldeponie.
Die Mülldeponie ist ein weitläufigeds Gelände und ein Tal inmitten der Millionenstadt Guatemala-City. Sie erhält den Müll und die Abfälle aus dem Großraum Guatemala-City. Seit 1956 wird die Deponie verfüllt und bietet heute ca. 10.000 Personen Arbeit durch Müllsammeln- Sortieren – und Verkauf. In Guatemala gibt es keine Klassifikation nach Metall, Plastik, Papier, Schuhen, Spielzeug, Glas, oder anderen Produkten. Das Gelände ist terassenförmig aufgebaut und wird auf verschiedenen Höhen gleichzeitig verfüllt. Dabei können zwischen der tiefsten und höchsten Stufe mehrere hundert Meter liegen. Wenn ein Teil bis auf Strßenniveau verfüllt ist, wird das Gelände verkauft – derzeit an eine sehr reiche englischstämmige Familie namens Mini, die das Gelände in Kleinstparzellen an die Ärmsten der Armen – meist Müllsammler- verkauft. Am 28. April gegen 12,30 schoss eine riesige Schlammlawine durch den untersten Teil der Depponie
und riss neben einer Planierraupe, einem vollbesetzten Müllwagen auch zwischen 100 und 200 dort tätige Menschen mit sich in den Tod. In diesem Teil der Kippe, also ganz unten, arbeiten zumeist Minderjährige, die keine Konzession besitzen, wie sie einigen älteren Arbeitern zugestanden wird, die dann in oberen Lagen arbeiten. Von den zwischen 100 und 200 Verschwundenen konnten lediglich 4 Tote und 19 Verletzte geborgen werden, der Rest verschwand auf immer. Unter ihnen Francisco Gallego, 15 Jahre alt, Student im Instituto Rainer Sanchez , Secundarstufe, 8. Klasse. Mit ihm starben der Vater eines unserer Kindergartekinder sowie der Großvater eines anderen Studenten.
CAFNIMA widmet sich seit 1993 der Aufgabe, den Menschen , die auf und von der Müllkippe leben, das Leben zu erleichtern, durc h Vorschulprogramme, Schulunterricht, Berufsausbildung, Gesundheitsfürsorge, Mikrokredite usw. Es hat bei mehreren der unterschiedlichsten Slums durch Anlage von Wasserversorgung, Abwasser, Elektrifizierung und Rechtshilfe den Menschen in ihrer Miserie geholfen. Aktuell benötigen die Helfer von CAFNIMA einige Zeit, um mit Hilfe der Beswohnerkommites einen Status über Opfer und deren Angehörige zu erstellen. Hierbei fokussiert sich die Akuthilfe auf etwa 160 Familien, die ganz besonderer Hilfe bedürfen, d-h. in menschenunwürdiger Situation vegetieren. Wir möchten den Kommites helfen, die Terrains zu planieren, damit sie sich bei Regen nicht ständig in eine Schlammwüste verwandeln, Mauern und Dächer zu reparieren und zu verstärken, für Abwasserkanäle und Frischwasser sorgen, Latrinen zu erstellen und ihnen legalen Schutz vermitteln, damit ihnen ihre eh schon miserablen Unterkünfte aus Wellblech, Plastikplanen und Abfallholz nicht streitig gemacht werden können. Wir schätzen den ersten finanziellen Aufwand auf 15 – bis 20.000 Dollar für das notwendige Material. Dürfen wir Sie und Euch um Unterstützung bitten.

Guatemala City: Bergrutsch auf dem Gelände der Müllkippe in Zone 3
Liebe Freunde,
hier nachstehend eine erschütternde Nachricht von unserem Partner Christian Aponte
in Guatemala:
Liebe Freunde,
ich schicke Euch einen Link zu einem Video von einem Bergrutsch auf dem Gelände der
Müllkippe in der Zone 3, der sich 2012 ereignete und zufällig von einem unserer Mitarbeiter
gefilmt wurde. Daraus geht klar die immense Kraft eines solchen Ereignisses hervor, bei dem
damals 4 Personen starben. Diese Katastrophen mit Menschenopfern sind leider sehr häufig.
Am 27. April dieses Jahres ereignete sich ein weiterer Unfall viel größerer Dimension. Der
Bergrutsch verschlang eine große städtische Verdichtungsmaschine, einen Müllwagen mit
mehreren Mitfahrern und viele Müllsammler- und Sortierer. Die Stadtverwaltung von Guatemala-
City, die diese riesengroße Müllkippe verwaltet, spricht von nur 24 toten Sammlern, aber
Augenzeugen sprechen von 100 – 200 Opfern, unter ihnen der Vater eines unserer Kinderhort-
Kinder, der Großvater einer unserer Schülerinnen sowie einer unserer Schüler aus dem 2. Grad.
Das sind unsere ersten Informationen. CAFNIMA hatte bisher keinen Zutritt zu dem Katastrophenort
und konnte sich so auch nicht an der unmittelbaren Rettungsaktrion beteiligen. Aber wir betreuen
die Familien der mit uns verbundenen Opfer. Zur Zeit machen wir eine Bestandsaufnahme der Opfer
und der Situation von deren Familien. Zugleich erbitten wir in der kommenden Woche Hilfe für die
Unterbringung von 200 Familien von besonders bedürftigen Müllsammlern. Wir lassen wieder
von uns hören..

Queridos amigos. Les envió un link de un vídeo de un deslave de basura que sucedió en el 2012 en el Relleno Sanitario de la zona 3 que fue filmado por unos jóvenes. Se puede apreciar la magnitud del fenómeno que En esa ocasión murieron 4 personas. Los accidentes y muertes en el basurero son repetitivas y constantes. El 27 de Abril del 2016 hubo un derrumbe mucho mayor. Se tragó una maquina compactadora de la Muní, un camión de basura con varios ocupantes y muchos recicladores. La Municipalidad de Guatemala que administra el Relleno, afirma que solo hubieron 24 guajeros muertos, pero los guajeros calculan las víctima se entre 100 a 200 personas, entre ellos el papa de de un niño de nuestra guardería, el abuelo de una de nuestras alumnas y un alumno de secundaria. Este es nuestra primera nota. Como CAFNIMA no pudimos entrar al Relleno a ayudar en las labores del rescate, pero asistimos inicialmente a las familias de las víctimas relacionadas con nosotros. Ahora estamos haciendo un inventario de víctima se y conocer cuál es la situación de sus familias. También vamos a pedir apoyo la semana entrante para un asentamiento de 200 familias de guajeros en muy mala situación. Nos quedamos pendientes. Un abrazo. Me despido en solidaridad. We are very happy to hear the news of a new year for our agricultural work. We will write the the letter of thanks to Erbacher and provide a the year report with a lot of photos.
The Institute has 170 students this years and we have had only 2 students have deserted so far, so we are very happy with the results this year. We are complementing the formal studies this years with additional activities and courses like sex education, education on job interviews and labor laws that are often irrespected in the country, a course with the parent of the 7th grade on how be better parents, addicional math, etc… and we are very happy for this quality.
Rainer, due to the quality of our work, the German embassy ask us to bring Mr. Hans-Joachim Fuchtel, Secretario de Estado Parlamentario del Ministro Federal alemán de Cooperación Económica y Desarrollo, that was in a visit in Guatemala 3 weeks ago. I presented him the work we do with the youngsters in the Instittuto Rainer and they were very pleased. a big german delegation came. The list is as follows:

I am including son pictures and in two of them you will see the students of the institute talking with members of the delegation and the older man in the picutres is Mr. Fuchstel. On the front door on the arrival of the delegation we putted the sign of the Instituto Rainer. I think it would be good that you contact Mr. Fuchtel in Germany to tell him you support the work to prevent violence in Guatemala through CAFNIMA. We had a german volunteer of the Jurgen Wahn and he also saw the kingergarten and the new kindergarten that they support in one community beside the dump. This small facility was inaugurated last friday with the presence of the first lady of Guatemala. The wife of the president, as SOSEP,consider our kindergartens one of the highest quality in the country. This includes the kindergarten in Lomas that you support with SOSEP.
